InterFormNG2 3.5.0 is now available

We’re happy to announce that InterFormNG2 3.5.0 just has been released.  

We have added more than 50 new features, bugfixes and improved the overall user experience.  

It may seem like a lot of new functionality. In this blogpost we will present 5 key updates that will your daily experience with InterFormNG2.

1. New XPath wizard has been added.  

You can now search among functions and see what each individual function does. For example, you can search for all string related functions.  Prompting the functions is also possible, which makes them easier to set up correctly. 

This helps you in your daily work when navigating between the many functions that XPath and InterForm offer together. 

2. Improved search functionality within designer, printer que and logs.  

Tired of not being able to find what you’re looking for?  

We have improved the search functionality and included more advanced search parameters. Just to highlight a few ways we have improved search functionality: 

• You can use AND and OR and even () in order to define a more advanced search. 
• New advanced search in job logs and printer queue allowing searches for content of specific log info keys – up to 3 keys at the same time. 
• Search functionality added in the library and the designer’s “open template” dialog. 
• Search functionality has been added in the Excel designer. 
• Improvement to job log searching. Searches will now complete faster, especially when searching through a large number of logs

3. PDF can now resize images to a new DPI. 

PDF now supports resizing images to a specified DPI using the predefined variable pdf.resizeImagesDPI.  

This feature is useful if your template includes large images, such as 10MB files, and you want to reduce the overall PDF file size. By setting a DPI value, the PDF size will increase only as much as necessary to match the chosen DPI or resolution. 

4. A simple text editor is now available in the library and the sample file selection of the designer. 

You can now open and directly edit files without needing to download or create external copies making it easier to test new designs, functions, and content. 

You can use this to edit text-based files such as XML files, spooled files, mail templates, transforms, validation rules and others. 

You can open and edit the object types mentioned above by simply double clicking on the object.   

5. Designer: Repeat header rows on tables 

The table element in the designer is often used for detail lines of a document. A new property on the table element enables you to set a number of header rows, which are to be (automatically) repeated on subsequent pages in case of a page overflow.  

Previously you would need to align two different tables, but this makes tables easier to define and to edit. 

Installations requirements: 

InterFormNG2 now runs on Java 17. You need to install Java 17 on Linux and the IBM-i platform. Java 17 is embedded in InterFormNG2 on the Windows platform. On the IBM-i platform V7R4 or higher is required in order to install version 3.5.0. External jar files e.g. for database drivers should be copied to a special libext folder.  

Is it necessary to update? 

We always recommend our customers to update to the latest version of InterFormNG2 (or InterForm400).  

We know that it can be a tough task to find space and time to update InterForm, but to ensure the best experience and the best service we highly recommend updating as soon as possible.

Soon, our manual will get an overhaul design-wise.  

Even though the manual can be found under a different URL and the design is different, the search functionality and the structure will still be the same.  

The new manual has a more modern look and will be easier to navigate.
