PEPPOL set to become the B2B E-Invoicing standard in France by 2026

France is on the brink of a major digital transformation in e-invoicing, with PEPPOL (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) poised to become the standard framework for B2B transactions by 2026. This shift is part of the country’s ongoing effort to modernize invoicing processes, enhance interoperability, and ensure compliance with tax regulations. 

Unlike other countries France will have their own Peppol Authority, but OpenPeppol will be acting as an interim Peppol Authority for France, until Frances own Peppol Authority is ready to assume the role.

Since 2019 e-invoicing has been mandatory for B2G-transactions, but in the upcoming future e-invoicing will also become mandatory for B2B. The first deadline is 1st of September 2026 for for large companies and mid-sized companies, whereas the deadline for obligation for small and medium-sized enterprises and microenterprises to issue e-invoices are 1st of September 2027

Though there is fairly long time to the 1 September 2026, where the obligation for all French companies to be able to receive e-invoices and for large companies and mid-sized companies to issue e-invoices, we highly recommend French companies to start their e-invoicing journey now.
